Sixty Six Days @ Scruffy Murphy's April 12th 2008

SIXTYSIXDAYS

Named for the sixty-six day hunger strike that political prisoner of war Bobby Sands died for in prison, the band sixtysixdays is an Irish band with a definite in your face attitude!

Lead singer and guitarist Christopher Shelby has just the right amount of scruff to make the right statement for their music. This not being your “traditional” Irish band; their music has a lot political overtones …as one would surmise with the bands name.

Although “rebel music” is the main course on sixtysixdays menu, they are still able to get the crowd going with standard Irish fare. This also had a unique and different twist to it. Branden Rauen-fiddle/vocals/tin whistle, brings his influence from his folk and blue-grass days to the Celtic venue and this mix has a spin that sounds like Charlie Daniels was really an Irishman. The other members of the band, Dave LaMothe-bass/vocals, and Andy McQueen-drums, rounded out the band to perfect harmony.

If you'd like to be whisked away to the gates of St. James Cathedral... this is a must see band!
